Thank you to those families who braved the cold this week and attended player evaluations on Tuesday and Thursday. It was a great turnout! Unfortunately, it looks like the forecast is not going to cooperate for our final day of evaluations so we will need to reschedule to Wednesday, January 24th. This will be the last day for your player to be evaluated before we conduct our draft for the Minor and Major divisions so please make every effort to attend.
As a reminder, we are making adjustments to the player evaluation and draft process for the Major and Minor baseball divisions in response to feedback received about competitiveness across the teams in a division. As a result, we ask that all players seeking to play baseball in either the Major or Minor divisions make every attempt to attend one of the scheduled evaluations listed below. This includes previously drafted players returning to the Minor and Major divisions.
Who should attend an evaluation session?
Baseball players league age 8 - 12 who are new to Ladera LL
Baseball players returning/previously drafted to the Minor or Major baseball division
Baseball players who are planning to move to a new division in spring 2024 (even if already aligned to a team). For example:
player would like to move up from the Rookie division to the Minor division; or
player would like to move up from the Minor division to the Major division
Players in the above categories must attend an evaluation session to be eligible for the upcoming Major and Minor baseball draft.
Please keep in mind that this is NOT a tryout, but an evaluation to assess whether your player is ready to move to the next division (it's all about safety!); AND to aid in the formation of balanced, competitive teams within a division.
Who does not need to attend player evaluations?
Rookie and Tee-Ball baseball players need NOT attend the evaluations if they plan to remain within the Rookie and Tee-Ball divisions
What do families need to do to prepare for evaluations?
Players must be registered (or on a waitlist) to participate in evaluations. Registration for all divisions will close on January 20.
Players will need to bring their own glove, batting helmet, bat, and wear rubber cleats.
Evaluations will include throwing, fielding, catching, running, pitching and batting.
Location: 5401 S. Fairfax Avenue, Los Angeles CA 90056 on the Major Diamond (field 2, middle of the park)
Players need to attend only one of the below sessions. Please arrive 15 minutes ahead of start time to check-in and warm up.
Wednesday, January 24th
Minors/Majors (League age 8 -12) - 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
5:45p Minor players arrive, sign in and stretch
6:00p Begin Minor Division evaluations
6:45p Major players arrive, sign in and stretch
7:00p Begin Major Division evaluations
PLEASE NOTE: Dates, times and location are subject to change.
Lastly, registration will close today, Saturday, January 20th. We have already filled the slots for a few of our divisions, so please don't delay. If you register after today, your child will be added to the waitlist and we can not guarantee a slot will open up for the upcoming Spring 2024 season.
